windows at bergdorf!
ever since i can remember, i have had a fascination with window displays, in-store displays, and the people who create them. several years ago, i was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time when i was asked to be part of a creative team to create window and internal displays for a major contemporary line. this was simultaneously some of the best and most challenging work i had done up to that point. although no longer creating displays, i continue to covet and remain awe inspired by the ideas that artists use to create such installations.

coming in for a NY landing
a few ariel shots from the plane. i was able to see central park from here, too (not in these photos).
officially back from my 1st trip to NY. it seems a little ridiculous that it's taken me so long to get there, but well worth the wait. personal points of interest: seeing jill!, central park, farmers market at union station, giant fish mosaic in the subway station, the west village, lower east side, and the window displays at Bergdorf Goodman. we never made it to brooklyn, and i'm bummed because i've been told i'd love it. i'm still trying to group photos appropriately. as much as i loved NY, hanging with my bf, it feels amazing to be back in los angeles with nick & chelsea (our 9 year old shepard-mix) amongst nature, mountains, sunshine, space.

improvised shapes and patterns, hand-dyed, and hand quilted. intended as wall hangings, these would look just as beautiful on beds.

wafflerama
mmmmm. i love waffles. i don't mind if they're the previously frozen kind, so long as they're good. there are many ways to doctor up even the crunchiest of hippy hemp ones (my favorite!). european style yogurt, blueberries, and grade B maple syrup does it for me. thanks to linda & jeff for the beautiful drinking vessel from a taos based artist. ceramic waffle holder handmade by me.
the radical architecture of little magazines

Domus no.477, August, Milan 1969
Design Quarterly no. 63, Minneapolis, 1964
Symbols, London, 1966
i have a serious obsession with early graphics, design, and architecture, so when i came across Clip/Stamp/Fold i almost died. take a look at the curated timeline, and click on each publication for a detailed history of these "little magazines."

concrete magic
at first glance this appeared to be a weed. looked a little closer, then took a little taste... arugula! we planted some last spring. it dies annually during the dry summer months, and it's typical for seeds to disperse, everywhere. those magical seeds stayed dormant in the cement crack in our backyard, surviving rain, our feet, our dog, wild birds and critters, an entire year. concrete magic indeed. if we pay closer attention, we'll find more magic like this...

album sides wednesday
Talking Heads, Little Creatures, side 1
Bob Marley, Exodus, side 1
Creedence Clearwater Revival, Willy & the Poor Boy, side 2
The Kinks, Low Budget, side 1
100.3 The Sound, a Los Angeles based radio station, has started a vinyl revolution of sorts. i first heard about it with my own 2 ears in february. this was slated to be a weekly wednesday event, or so i thought, but the day long extravaganza hadn't reappeared until today. the stations dj's are playing full album sides, without interruption, which i guess can be good or bad, depending on the artist/band in current rotation. as far as i can tell, good definitely outnumbers bad. this brings some serious newness to the airwaves, thankfully.

good mornin' mr. squirrel
as i was drinking coffee and looking out our kitchen window (see kitchen nook inspiration post), i noticed mr. squirrel sleeping high up on a eucalyptus branch. not sure how long he was there prior to my sighting, but he remained for 30 more minutes. he must have been comfortable, and surely warm with his fluffy tail acting as a blanket.

alyson fox
a small collection, sp/su '08
i first became familiar with the work of alyson fox through her drawings via Little Paper Planes. i was not so surprised to quickly find that she's multi-gifted in many fields including photography, fashion design, styling, visuals, etc. although no longer available, i'm on a serious manhunt for this completely relevant little number shown above. and i am inspired, beyond belief, by the film vignettes that showcase her collections.
