..::snowy owl, limited edition linocut reduction print::..

'Snowy Owl' is a limited edition linocut reduction of my interpretation of a snowy owl feather. the light beigey base was printed from the block that also printed this. (those gorgeous feather prints are available for purchase, here.) the dark brown spots were created by carving away the original feather, leaving merely flecks of linoleum which simulate lines on a true feather (you can click on the last photo for a close up, if you'd like). since the original feather has been carved away, the block is no longer printable, which means, these prints are the only reminders of what once was. my dears, once they're gone, they're gone for good!!

a limited edition of 14 (not 15 as i originally thought).
available in my shop now.

pssst, pssst! you're the first to know...

here is a glimpse at my new reduction print. 'snowy owl' is my first feather linocut reduction. because the original block has been reduced, these will never be produced again. super limited edition of 15.

more info & pictures to come. it will be available for purchase in my shop tonight.

hi, hello

well, well, aren't you a sight for sore eyes! it's been a busy few months here around the bird's nest. and before i profess my return to blogging on a regular basis (that really didn't go over to well last time), i just want to say what a great place this has been for sharing & rambling. and, if you don't mind, i'd like to continue doing so... xo

have a cool weekend

my friends, what are you up to this weekend? we're going to the Hammer Museum in los angeles to see the etching exhibit, and then to Pizzaria Mozza for what is reportedly some pretty damn good antipasti & pizza. also, i'd love to make some watermelon-prosecco popsicles! i'd love to hear about how you plan to beat the heat this weekend...

treehouses

who hasn't, at some point, dreamed about living in a treehouse? in my neck of the woods in los angeles, there are 2 -- functional & currently being played in -- treehouses. so it wasn't a complete surprise when i literally stumbled upon these two on our recent trip to northern california.

((if you look closely, you can see a string of xmas lights around each window))

normandie "the dude" chompsky

we weren't actively looking to adopt, but when we were approached by a family in need, we felt we had to consider. clearly, it wasn't a difficult decision to make, and now, normandie, norman, norm, "boo boo," "boobs (!!)" is here to stay! he is a 2-year old, 14-lb, terrier-chihuahua-mix. he's super curious, spunky, happy, and a total joy. we are in love...
RIP geeg

summer is here, happy 4th!

it feels like summer has officially arrived (although, i loved having weeks and weeks of that wonderful june gloom). this weekend we'll be watching movies in the backyard on the outdoor movie screen nick made 2 years ago, visiting friends at the beach & bbqing. we really want to savor this time because it's going to be a busy summer (both fun & not so fun).

sometimes i just prefer to look at things from behind. and it's kinda cool to think that this huge dahlia gets to see the rest of the backyard all day, everyday...

grams farmer's market

at the grand age of 81, my grams still has the greatest green thumb i've ever known. we spent wednesday afternoon scouring her expansive backyard for table ready produce. this is what we picked: 1 fig, 1 apricot, many green beans in 2 varieties, a few heirloom tomatoes, 3 green bell peppers, and 15 blackberries.

two harbors

the view from our campsite. originally, we were at a site up the hill with no ocean view. we decided to move and couldn't have been happier with our decision. we were nestled between 2 awesome couples: gabe-becca & noelle-harold. coffee, cream, breakfast burritos, campfires, toasted marshmallows...

the beautiful couple who brought all of us together. i have known the gorgeous bride, margaux, since 1998 -- good 'ol college days. i have had the pleasure of getting to know vince over the past year. and i couldn't be more thrilled for them as they embark on their collective journey into married life!!
