Michael Jackson & Disneyland

no one can deny his genius. here it is again. this video is part of the 'Captain EO' adventure ride (not sure what it's technical name was, but while you watched, your chairs moved as if you were riding through space!) created in 1986 for Disneyland. i am always surprised when people, especially california natives, say they never experienced this in person. i'm willing to date myself a little bit here. when this ride was unveiled, my family and i waited in line for almost 2 hours before we made it in. i was so in love with all the dancing, i cried a little. and, i never quite got over my NEED for the yellow ensemble on the dancer to the left of mj...

i am stunned. good bye, michael jackson.

happy father's day

just me and my dad. he loved capturing normal, everyday activities in photos. did you notice my left hand holding onto a chunk of his hair for leverage?

how does your garden grow?

we see you hiding under there, mr. lemon cucumber.

this guy will be ready to eat in 5-7 days.

in the last 5 months, i have become more and more interested in taking photos of garden life, in particular, things that experience a rather quick life cycle. it's been amazing to watch many things sprout, bloom, and then wither back into the ground. i plan on taking photos of these processes, and posting them in the weeks to come.

founders brewery

IPA

Canadian Breakfast Stout & Imperial Stout

he's so pleased, he's a little suspicious.

one of the highlights of our trip to MI (besides the wedding, of course), was paying a visit to Founders, a premier micro brewery located on the edge of grand rapids. we really had no idea what was in store, except for the list of currently available beers and carefully written descriptions for each. we wanted to try at least 7 each, which actually is possible to do, however, we refrained. our livers are thankful. our favorite, the Curmudgeon, is described here. i swear i experienced a slight coconut after taste. missy can totally vouch for me!

lovely beets

previously sandy beets, just rinsed & peeled. ready for cutting & baking w/ olive oil, garlic, pepper flakes & fresh thyme. we'll add these to salads throughout the week.

beet greens, ready for dinner.

ta-dah! i sauteed beet stalks & greens in olive oil with garlic, anchovies, and red pepper flakes. once the stalks became somewhat soft, i added a large can of san marzano tomatoes, salt and then simmered for 20 minutes. meanwhile, i boiled gnocchi pasta (not potato dumplings, but actual pasta!), and prepped shrimp for a quick pan fry. nick loved it, and chelsea (our dog) begged for a lil taste (too spicy for the girl).

skulls & peonies

i found these beautiful peonies at our local trader joes. they smell fantastic! the skull was purchased by nick at the age of 10 on a family vacation in jamaica. the bamboo chair once belonged to my grandma Joan.

super sneak peek

avant bows and beads, by tworavens.

i just couldn't wait any longer! one of my current projects is the amalgamation of vintage fabric and beads with new sterling silver chain and sterling silver beads. the colors are crazy (sorry for the bad lighting)! i'm hoping for better photo taking weather in the coming days. stay tuned...

i'm back

it's been a looong time since my last post-3 weeks?! during that time, i was feeling less inspired, moody, a little out-of-sorts--particularly with the internet. but, i also made several new pieces of one-of-a-kind jewelry. so far just necklaces & earrings. i am hoping to find some time on wed to take & post photos. they will soon be available on my etsy shop, tworavens.

nick & i also just returned from MI, where we attended the wedding of one of my dearest friends. i was summonsed to be one of her "best ladies" and provided hair and make-up support. the wedding was beautiful, the bride & groom radiated with excitement and love, we danced for hours, drank some damn good beer, caught up with old friends, and met some new ones. i'll post a few photos later...
