Day 7 (cont.) Tonapah

we tried yet another new wine called Educated Guess. it was super fruity and juicy with a slightly zesty end note. nick chose this cab based on the label.

sorry we don't have any photos of our drive between Yosemite and Tonopah. yes, Tonopah. i know what you're thinking, "where/what is that?" let me explain. we left Yosemite, and began our journey toward Utah, but with many, many miles to cover, we knew we'd have to make at least 1 overnight stop along the way. our original idea was to stay in the small town of Benton, Ca. at their only B & B. sadly, we learned that the entire complex was booked for a private event, so, we chose to continue to drive into Nevada.

we arrived at the Ramada in Tonopah around 6:00pm. we were hungry and eager to relax. given the few options in town, we ordered food from the restaurant downstairs. i asked the young-looking-waiter-guy if the house specialty pork chops were any good, and he said, "I have no idea." okay, so he wasn't much of a salesman. anyway, we both ended up ordering sirloin steaks: mine-medium, nick's-rare. there is not much currently happening in this little town, but someone sure knows how to cook steak! we were pleasantly surprised. i kept cutting into my steak looking for some sort of uneven cooking or other imperfection, but couldn't find anything.

for breakfast, we decided to purchase items at the grocery store in the adjacent lot. to our surprise, we found one of our favorite items: european style yogurt by Strauss. we couldn't believe it. with two impressive food surprises, Nevada has redeemed itself!

a lonely Nevada rest stop. the gravel was combed and the picnic tables hardly looked used.

this is much of what we saw on our journey from Nevada to Utah.
